This Christmas give the gift that truly keeps on giving! Chelten Baptist Church is raising funds to help the Kijabe Boys School (KBS), a public high school in Kenya, purchase milking cows. This is part of an ongoing effort by the administration of the Kijabe Boys School to become more self-sufficient and refocus available governmental resources toward other nutritional, educational and housing needs for the boys.
A good milking cow costs $1000 and produces about 15 liters (4 gallons) of milk each day. The school currently spends about $1,400-1,700 per month for milk for the 750 students, money that can be saved and redirected toward other priorities at the school. The opportunity we are presenting to you or your group is to purchase ¼ of a cow for $250 as a gift in your name or in the name of a friend or relative this Christmas. Our goal is to purchase 10 cows. These cows will provide long-term sustainable benefits for KBS. The cows will have calves, which will add to and renew the herd. The manure from the cows will be treated to produce methane gas that can be used to cook the food for the school, and the waste will be used as fertilizer for the corn and vegetables grown on the school grounds. There are also boys who are studying to work in agriculture who can help with the care and feeding of the cows. This one gift will literally grow and continue to be a significant benefit and blessing to the students and the school for many years to come.
Chelten has an established long-term relationship with KBS. Our lead Pastor, Andy Hudson, taught there, lived there, and mentored boys there during the 1990’s. Over the past 6 years, Chelten has supported KBS on a number of projects, and they are an important partner for many of our short-term missions in Kenya.
Your checks should be made out to Chelten Baptist Church, with “Christmas Cow Project” or “Holy Cow Project” on the memo line of the check. 100% of your tax-deductible gift will be used for the school and to purchase the milking cows. If additional funds are raised, the funds will be used for a similar purpose with the A.I.C. Maai Mahiu Children's Home, another organization that Chelten supports in the Kijabe area.
You can do this alone, as a family, with your school, your co-workers or as part of your small group. Our goal is not just to provide a significant blessing to the school this Christmas but to provide a broad range of people the opportunity to participate in this special project.
After we receive your gift, we will provide you with one or more specially designed Christmas cards acknowledging your generosity and willingness to help the Kijabe Boys School.
